Abstract

Based on a review of secondary literature, press, and rulings on land restitution and justice and peace courts, the article reconstructs four examples to demonstrate how notaries are fundamental actors in the legalization and legitimation of activities associated with illegal drug trafficking, land dispossession, money laundering, among others. It highlights the role of notaries as leaders and political actors and their relationships with different actors involved in crimillegality. It also argues that, due to their legal nature, notaries are essential for legalizing drug trafficking activities in a context of crimillegality, such as in the case of Colombia
