Molecular paleontology of vertebrates

    Project: Research Project

    Project Details

    Description

The resources requested in this proposal are necessary to start a research project that will allow the training of students as research assistants or even graduate assistants in the field of vertebrate and molecular paleontology, using as a case study the Pleistocene fossil locality in Pubenza, Cundinamarca; a place where Paleontology interacts with other disciplines such as Archaeology.

The development of this project is justified in the existing gap in the knowledge of the evolutionary history of the current and past biodiversity of Colombia, one of the megadiverse countries of the world; and in particular of the faunal composition of Colombia during the late Pleistocene (approximately 16,500 years ago.

    Keywords

Compilation of existing information and literature, obtaining of geological maps and notification to the Colombian Geological Service and local authorities of Pubenza on the realization of field trips and collection of fossils.
