Description

Objective: to report a case of white circular atrophy of the iris associated with uveitis coinfection of the varicella zoster virus and Toxoplasma gondii in Bogotá, Colombia.
Clinical case: a 53-year-old Colombian patient with a history of chronic anterior uveitis in the left eye with varicella zoster and positive toxoplasma by aqueous humor PCR and serology and secondary ocular hypertension. In February 2016, he began with episodes of ocular pain, hyperemia, photophobia, and decreased visual acuity in the left eye. He has been treated with Bactrim and Aciclovir orally, with partial and temporary improvement, but reactivation of the uveitis. She consulted the Barraquer Clinic for a second opinion in March 2016 due to worsening symptoms. Currently, in treatment with Aciclovir, Krytantek, Gaap, Zebesten, Flumetol, with persistent hyperemia, poor vision and occasional pain in the left eye.
Conclusion and significance: This report is the first case report published worldwide on diffuse white circular atrophy of the iris associated with varicella zoster virus and toxoplasma gondii coinfection. In our bibliographical research we did not find any identical case.
