Abstract
The fundamental aim of this article is to discuss two essential features of the agricultural economic sphere: (i) First, the structural economic-productive problems of this sector, and (ii) second, the macroeconomic subsidy this sector has repeatedly made, in an almost permanent form, to other economic and social sectors in Latin American countries. Included in the latter issue are important repercussions of this subsidy on the characteristics of life in the region, especially poverty and the lack of effective social inclusion. One of the core conclusions of this study is that, while this scheme remains in place, the region will keep this economic sector in the background and traits of economic vulnerability will increase in these countries.
