Abstract
Peace and Public Opinion in Colombia analyzes the peace negotiations and the Havana Agreement from the perspective of public opinion, and presents an overview of how public opinion has evolved in the country, taking into account the different components of the Agreement and some aspects of its implementation. Specialists in the field address attitudes and perceptions regarding the negotiations and the Agreement based on surveys and rigorous data analysis methods. These pages attempt to answer questions such as the role of political elites in shaping public attitudes towards the Agreement, whether the victims of the conflict are more or less likely than the average citizen to support peace, how much Colombians support transitional justice, what is the influence of public opinion on legislators' positions on peace, how much do citizens' biases towards ex-combatants influence the approval of the Peace Agreement, and what is the link between experiences of violence and reconciliation. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to better understand the complexities surrounding citizen attitudes towards the peace negotiations, the Havana Agreement and their perception by citizens. Whoever reads this book will see that citizens' opinions on peace transcend the result of the 2016 plebiscite, that they evolve over time, that they are multidimensional and full of so many different aspects.
