Abstract

In 1986, Dr. Rubén Ardila published the book La Psicología en América Latina, Pasado, Presente y Futuro (Psychology in Latin America, Past, Present and Future), published by Siglo XXI, Mexico. Like many of Ardila's works, it was another pioneering work on his subject. Precisely that overview of psychology in our continent is the main antecedent of the compilation Psychology in Latin America: Current status, challenges and perspectives, also compiled by Ardila and published by the prestigious Springer publishing house (Ardila, 2018). The 1986 book, written and published in Spanish, was aimed especially at psychologists in the region, with the intention of providing a historical and cultural context, as well as an overview of research and professional applications, while pointing out the limitations and paths to be followed.
