    Project: Research Project

    Project Details

    Description

1.To identify whether the timing of pupal hatching modulates life expectancy and senescent cell accumulation dynamics in male and female Drosophila.

    Layman's description

Males are more fragile than females, both in drosophila and humans, and we want to determine whether hatching times influence the accumulation of senescent cells and life expectancy.

    Keywords

Determine the survival curves of early hatching (first 6 hours) and late hatching (12 to 24 hours after the first hatching) males and females.
Quantify the appearance of senescent cells with aging in the four experimental groups of specific objective 1.

    Commitments / Obligations

    1. Training of medical and biology students in research methodology. 2.
Training of students in the use of Drosophila melanogaster as a model of aging.
3.Training students in a basic molecular biology technique: quantitative PCR.
Determine whether hatching times of male and female Drosophila pupae are associated with different life history trajectories.
5.Determine whether different life history trajectories in Drosophila melanogaster are related to senescent cell accumulation.
