Description

Thermochronology studies the cooling of rocky bodies on their path from deep places within the planet to the surface. Therefore, this technique can serve as an indirect proxy for the uplift of mountain chains. Over the past decade, a large amount of thermochronological data has been produced in the Colombian Andes, which have been directly linked to the local uplift of various segments of the Eastern, Central, and Western cordilleras. This project aims to compile the available data to interpret the uplift patterns of the Colombian Andes on a continental scale.

Reconstructing these uplift patterns will allow us to understand the magnitude, timing, and other processes associated with tectonic events that were responsible for the development of the mountainous landscape. Understanding landscape evolution is crucial for comprehending the diversity of ecosystems and the water richness of the Colombian territory.
