Action and Representation in the Arts: Visible Voices and Painted Tongues

Project: Creation project

Project Details

Description

This research+creation project explores the relationship between action and representation, focusing on the idea of voice production. It begins with a systematic review of national images in which the moment of voice emission is visible, and which have been produced in artistic, political, pedagogical or other contexts, such as paintings, sketches, drawings, illustrations or caricatures. Local and national collections, both public and private, will be examined in the first phase of the project. The search will focus only on images that represent people emitting sounds with their voice. These images will be indexed by scanning, photography or authorized drawn copy. The results of the research+creation will be materialized in three ways: an artist's book, a video art piece and an academic article that will comply with the guidelines for its publication.
