The article is devoted to a review of the main ideological concepts of the Nichiren school what is currently important in relation to the wide international propagation of the doctrine of this school. The spreading of scientific and materialistic outlook in due time greatly influenced the development of the ideological processes. In the area of the religious ideology it manifested in the uprise of religious modernism. The so called "new religions" (jp. shinko shūkyō) can be considered as the most outstanding expression of the modernist tendencies in contemporary Japanese Buddhism. Among these "new religions" Soka Gakkai International deserves special attention due to its success in the global spreading of the teaching of Nichiren today.
