The role of location privacy in intelligent transportation systems

Producción científica: Contribución a revistaArtículo de Investigaciónrevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

Location privacy, as defined by Duckham and Kulik, is “a special type of information privacy which concerns the claim of individuals to determine for themselves when, how, and to what extent location information about them is communicated to others.” This concept underscores the critical importance of controlling the dissemination of one’s location data. While location privacy is often associated with smartphones and social networks, its importance is even more pronounced in the context of intelligent transportation systems. These systems, designed to optimize mobility, reduce congestion, and improve safety, rely heavily on accurate and continuous location data collected from vehicles, road infrastructure, and users. Applications such as real-time fleet monitoring, traffic prediction, smart parking, and autonomous driving all depend on the availability of this information.
