Recapturing Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán in the Mexican press: An analysis of the front page of El Universal, Reforma, Excelsior and La Jornada (2016)

Resumen

Este artículo, cuyo objetivo es conocer con exactitud cómo los titulares de los cuatro principales periódicos de México han informado sobre la recaptura de Joaquín Guzmán, mostrará los resultados de un análisis del contenido periodístico de estos cuatro periódicos mexicanos. Se trata de documentos de carácter general, que publicaron información en su portada sobre la recaptura del narcotraficante Joaquín "Chapo" Guzmán. Los hechos ocurrieron el 8 de enero de 2016, seis meses después de su fuga de la prisión del Altiplano en México. Si la fuga fue espectacular -ser de una prisión de alta seguridad y evidenciar colusión de autoridades y corrupción del sistema-, la recaptura fue aún mayor. Figuras conocidas, como los actores Kate del Castillo y Sean Penn, estuvieron involucrados, junto con una política del Partido Acción Nacional, lo que llevó a cuestionar el status quo mexicano. La cobertura de la recaptura se redujo, tendiendo a minimizar el impacto de los actos delictivos y contribuyendo tanto a la ficción como a hacer frívola la figura de Guzmán.
