Racionalidad y trascendencia: Investigaciones en epistemología de la religión

Este libro ofrece una contribución a la reflexión sobre tres problemas centrales en la filosofía de la religión contemporánea: las relaciones entre fe y racionalidad en las sociedades post-seculares; la cuestión del valor cognitivo de la experiencia y la creencia religiosas; y la pregunta por la posibilidad de evaluar las pretensiones de verdad religiosas de cara a las de las ciencias y otras formas de conocimiento. ¿Hace posible la crítica a la racionalidad, característica de varias corrientes filosóficas contemporáneas, repensar sus relaciones con la fe religiosa? ¿Qué lugar ocupa la experiencia de lo trascendente en el marco general de nuestras empresas cognitivas y en nuestra constante búsqueda de sentido? ¿Es deseable y posible evaluar la verdad en el diálogo entre religiones diversas o entre las ciencias y las religiones? Al ocuparse de estas y otras cuestiones relacionadas, este libro problematiza algunas de las oposiciones constitutivas de la modernidad: fe y racionalidad, saber y creer, ciencia y religión, unidad de la verdad versus pluralidad de las formaciones histórico-culturales. De este modo busca ampliar nuestra imagen de la racionalidad, situándola en relación con la experiencia de lo trascendente, que no sólo la limita y traspasa, sino que la precede y moviliza.


This book offers a contribution to the reflection on three central problems in contemporary philosophy of religion: the relations between faith and rationality in post-secular societies; the question of the cognitive value of religious experience and belief; and the question about the possibility of evaluating the truth-claims of religions in the face of those of science and other forms of knowledge. Does the critique of rationality, characteristic of several contemporary philosophical currents, make it possible to rethink its relations with religious faith? What place does the experience of the transcendent occupy in the general framework of our cognitive enterprises and in our constant search for meaning? Is it desirable and possible to evaluate truth in the dialogue between different religions or between the sciences and the religions? In dealing with these and related questions, this book problematizes some of the constitutive oppositions of modernity: faith and rationality, knowing and believing, science and religion, the unity of truth versus the plurality of cultural-historical formations. In this way it seeks to broaden our image of rationality, placing it in relation to the experience of the transcendent, which not only limits and transcends it, but also precedes and mobilizes it.
