Resumen

The cocrystal formed between 2-hydroxy-2,2-diphenylacetic acid and pyridine-2-carboxamide was successfully prepared by the dissolution and slow evaporation of solvent technique. The difference in melting points and powder diffraction patterns, measured for reactants and product, corroborate the formation of a new compound. X-ray powder diffraction analysis also confirms the homogeneity of the product obtained. The crystal structure of the new material was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and belongs to the triclinic system with centrosymmetric space group P-1. The neutrality of both components in the crystal confirms the formation of a cocrystal. The crystal packing of the new cocrystal is stabilized by the formation of heterosynthons of the acid-amide type described by the graph R22(8) forming rings which join laterally with other acid-amide rings forming a new ring between 4 neighboring molecules represented by the graph R24(8).
