Resumen
Multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis has been found in all areas of the world, with some areas having an alarming number of cases. Treatment of MDR tuberculosis requires the use of antituberculosis drugs that are less potent, more costly, and generally more toxic than drugs used to treat drug-susceptible tuberculosis and require prolonged administration for up to 2 or more years. Even under the best circumstances, treatment of MDR tuberculosis is associated with significant overall morbidityandmortalityandsubstantial increase in cost.
