Resumen

Se ha propuesto la relación grasa-músculo como un enfoque alternativo para evaluar la grasa corporal. El objetivo de este estudio fue explorar los umbrales de relación grasa-músculo en el diagnóstico del síndrome metabólico (SM); se planteó la hipótesis de que la relación grasa-músculo es un buen indicador predictivo del SM en una gran población de adultos jóvenes colombianos. Para ello, se realizó un estudio transversal sobre 1.416 sujetos (66,6% mujeres), de 18,1 a 25,1 años de edad. Como parte del estudio, se tomaron medidas de los indicadores antropométricos de los sujetos, los índices de lípidos séricos, la presión arterial y la glucosa en plasma en ayunas. La composición corporal se midió mediante análisis de impedancia bioeléctrica (BIA). Se calculó una nueva variable (relación entre la masa grasa y la masa muscular, en kg). Siguiendo la definición de la Federación Internacional de Diabetes (FID), el MetS incluye tres o más anomalías metabólicas. Las curvas de características operativas del receptor (ROC) y la regresión logística determinaron la capacidad discriminatoria de la relación grasa-músculo para predecir la MetS. Según la FID, el mejor punto de corte de la relación grasa-músculo para detectar MetS en los hombres fue de 0,225 kg, con un área bajo la curva (AUC) de 0,83, una sensibilidad del 80% y una especificidad del 70%. Para las mujeres, el punto de corte de la relación grasa-músculo fue de 0,495 kg, las AUC fueron de 0,88, y la sensibilidad y especificidad fueron de 82% y 80%, respectivamente. En conclusión, nuestros resultados mostraron que los puntos de corte de la relación grasa-músculo de los análisis de ROC demuestran un buen poder discriminatorio para detectar MetS en adultos jóvenes colombianos.
