Descripción
The increasing incidence of Candida infections, including those caused by multidrug-resistant species such as Candida auris, along with the emergence of antifungal resistance in Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and other clinically relevant yeasts, underscores the need for continuous epidemiological surveillance and improved diagnostic methodologies. This ongoing project aims to: (1) evaluate novel and alternative methodologies for the rapid and accurate identification of Candida and other fungal pathogens; (2) investigate antifungal susceptibility patterns and resistance mechanisms in emerging Candida species, as well as molds such as Aspergillus and Mucor; and (3) apply molecular and genomic approaches to study the epidemiology, genetic diversity, and virulence factors of these fungi.
By integrating multidisciplinary research efforts across different institutions, this project provides valuable insights into the global and regional spread of fungal pathogens, contributing to a better understanding of mycoses and guiding more effective infection control and treatment strategies.
