Abstract

Phenytoin is one of the most used antiepileptics because of its great utility for
different types of crisis and low cost. However, its use is limited because the adverse
effects, particularly those that affect the central nervous system. This case shows a
successful pharmaceutical intervention based on pharmacogenetics, to optimize
pharmacotherapy with phenytoin in an intermediate metabolizer patient with clear
signs of neurotoxicity for this drug.
