Abstract
Interprofessional Education (IPE) occurs when two or more professions learn from each other to improve collaboration and quality of care services.
care. This education must be based on planned, purposeful, concerted, and sustained collaborative practice. In the framework of assistive technology design, IPE is essential to the evaluation, design and implementation process. It must also establish a context analysis that enables a user-centered approach based on a framework of fairness, equity and accessibility. This report demonstrates a successful case of an assistive technology course for rehabilitation and biomedical engineering students at a higher education institution. The course is based on active and experiential learning strategies that involve specialized visits to foundations that work with people with disabilities, role-playing, hackathons, research workshops, and remote international collaborative learning strategies. The results show successful experiences of interprofessional collaboration that have allowed the creation of a community that responds to the needs of the population with disabilities, through the creation of assistive technologies and low-cost assistive products that promote occupational participation in different valued and meaningful areas.
