Abstract

This short paper proposes a reading of some of Jon Elster's work (1989a, 1989b) on how rationality, morality and social norms can help produce the cooperation required for successful collective action. This could be complemented, in a way, by Antanas Mockus' (2002) reflection on how the harmony between law, morality and culture also helps to generate cooperation. The Collective action does not result from a magic formula or strategy, but depends on a multiplicity of motivations - some of which are multiplicity of motivations - some of which are mentioned in this paper - and can be explained by mechanisms. can be explained by mechanisms
