    Abstract

    Research, understood as an indispensable activity for professional development, is an essential element in the epistemological advancement of physical education (PE) to become a scientific discipline. Objective. Evaluate the research profile of research groups made up of professionals in EF and related careers recognized by Colciencias in 2013 and registered on the ScienTi-Colombia platform. Material and methods. Descriptive observational study, based on the information described in the research groups in EF and related careers contained in the ScienTi-Colombia platform of Colciencias, 2013. To objectively know the productivity of the authors, the Lotka model was applied, by research groups and geographical region. Results. Twenty-three research groups with 622 members were identified, distributed in eight cities of the country. The "original" scientific article and participation in national events was the most widely used scientific production strategy for the dissemination of knowledge and its social appropriation. 3.5% (n = 22) of the members of the groups concentrate the largest scientific production in the last eight years (Lotka index > 1 - large producers). Conclusions. The researcher profile outlined here can provide the academic community with a perspective on their identity, and help set future priorities for improving knowledge and practice.
