Abstract

Cleft lip is defined as a congenital anomaly of the head and neck, with a higher incidence in males. The treatment par excellence is the surgical intervention, in the search of an adequate functionality and a good aesthetic result, to fulfill this objective it is necessary the interprofessional work, in which the speech therapist participates, during the process of evaluation and therapeutic intervention. The objective of the narrative review was to address mainly the processes of evaluation and speech therapy intervention in children with cleft lip. For its development, a search for information was carried out in the databases PubMed, Scopus and Lilacs, after which a critical analysis of the information was performed. The present narrative review aims to review aspects related to the history of cleft lip classification, etiological factors, processes of surgical intervention performed in children with cleft lip, which allow understanding the process of clinical phonoaudiological evaluation in the areas of swallowing, language, speech, voice and proposals for therapeutic intervention in children with cleft lip according to the evidence presented in the literature.
