Abstract

The last decades have shown not only a growing interest in everything related to old age and the elderly, but also in the different perspectives from which aging has been approached, as diverse as the multiple facets that make up this process. Hence, this book, Aging in the 21st century, has been designed to stimulate "learning to learn" about these topics, beyond the university classroom; to offer solutions to social problems, and for health professionals to communicate effectively in the different scenarios of professional performance. It was also conceived to consolidate the acquisition of knowledge through a common thread of social and humanistic contexts from which clinical problems are linked. In addition, through a horizontal integration, it presents the reader with a dynamic way of conceiving old age and, at the same time, contemplating the birth of sciences such as biology, statistics or anthropology, to finally determine a comprehensive look at the emergence of gerontology with its multidisciplinary components.
