Abstract

In the study of academic engagement several measurements have been developed around the theories and/or insights supporting such a concept. Accordingly, this paper is aimed at studying the psychometric properties of a scale for measuring academic engagement based on a sample of 102 students in a higher education institution in Ecuador. The questionnaire used for data collection is the Spanish version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (uwes-s 9). The factorial structure of the scale was assessed by robust estimation method. The results obtained show that the two-factor model reports better index adjustments than those of the one-factor and three-factor models, concluding that the two-factor structure is more appropriate. Additionally, these results lead to conclude that uwes-s 9 scale can be used for studying engagement phenomenon in the Ecuadorian context.
