Abstract
This new edition of the book on Biochemistry II introduces some modifications in the text on topics such as lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, and emphasizes the understanding of metabolic processes in different tissues of the human organism: hepatic, nervous, muscular and adipose. The objective is focused on preparing the student to face with greater confidence the subsequent stage of integration of metabolism and its alterations in the tissues. In coherence with the approach of using experiments to consolidate the concepts, a new practice was introduced to demonstrate the transport of amino acids through biological membranes, using the Wistar rat intestine as a model. The approach of this experimental activity has been developed by the group of professors of the Unit in an environment of continuous discussion that has allowed the unification of criteria, the definition of group positions and, above all, to initiate a path of preparation of practices that will be made available to the academic community by means of scientific articles that are beginning to be published in indexed magazines, since they fulfill their mission of clarifying concepts of this discipline. Likewise, a series of exercises designed both for the reinforcement of concepts and their application to the solution of problems are introduced, obeying the philosophy of the pedagogical proposal of the Unit, within which analysis and active participation in all learning activities is vital. Likewise, an appendix is presented with the necessary orientations for the student to construct each solution with understanding.
