Abstract

Of all microorganisms pathogenic to humans, fungi have historically been the least studied and attended to by public health programs nationally and globally. The medical, veterinary, and ecological importance of fungal diseases has increased considerably in the past. The current burden of fungal diseases in humans exceeds several million cases and more than 1.5 million deaths per year are estimated worldwide, and the cost of their diagnosis and treatment has a significant economic and public health impact (1-5) (https://gaffi.org/).
