Abstract

This article describes and analyzes the disagreements of two periods with respect to
their particular interpretation on the work of the artist Debora Arango. Drawing on the ideas
of Berger and Luckmann, we present an interpretation for the cause of the condemnation
that the artist suffered early in her career, and the exaltation of her work in the last years of
her life. Finally, the article shows the connection of this social phenomenon with the transformation
of gender roles; also, the transition from a traditional society to a more modern
one, and the processes that this implied for the group of people involved in this change.
