Abstract

Every August 1st, World Joy Day is celebrated, a date dedicated to one of the most powerful and universal emotions of human beings.
Far from being a simple passing sensation, joy profoundly influences our physical, emotional, and social well-being.
What exactly is joy? The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy defines it as “a pleasant and lively feeling that is usually manifested by outward signs. It also refers to the words, gestures, or actions with which joy or happiness is expressed.” Its etymological origin comes from the Latin alecris, which means “lively and animated.”
