Knowledge management for the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of ecosystem services

Research output: Chapter in Book/InformConference contribution

Abstract

The main difficulty in the management of socio-ecological systems is misinformed decision making that leads to wrong interventions of the landscape, which translates into the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The aim of this paper is to develop spaces for the formulation of socio-ecological problems, oriented to the generation, transfer and application of knowledge with which decisions are taken to solve socio-ecological problems. In this way, in this article is presented a proposed knowledge management structure for decision making on socioecological systems oriented to the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of ecosystem services. It is concluded that the great efforts being made by organizations of any style within the framework of knowledge management are wasted if this management does not return to the problems that generated them to help them resolve. This depends, to a large extent, on the capacity that the organization possesses to be articulated transdisciplinarity in exercises of joint construction of knowledge.
