Abstract
Societies are structured by institutions which oversee the design and enforcement of the “rules of the game” (North, 1991). Some institutions can remain remarkably stable across centuries, while others can change dramatically in a short period of time. From independence battles and worldwide conflicts to the arrival of an authoritarian regime, radical change has always been closer than it seems.
