Integración de los conceptos básicos de Bioquímica a la interpretación de las enfermedades: De la estructura a la función a la transformación molecular y a la enfermedad

This new edition of the book on Biochemistry III seeks to guide the interpretation of diseases based on the integration of the basic concepts of Biochemistry, which is a considerable improvement over the previous edition, since the authors introduced a series of orientation guides through which the student is given the basis for understanding the alterations of acid-base balance as well as metabolic alterations in tissues and adaptations to changes that arise in health situations and in the course of diseases. In addition, groups of students must prepare specific disease guides that have been selected as "study models" within each of the subject topics. Likewise, the student is given the possibility of choosing a disease within the thematic axes handled from the first course of Biochemistry: acid-base balance, structure-function relationship and enzymology, for the development of the Biochemistry Integration Project to be presented at the end of the semester, so that he/she fully strengthens his/her capacity of information search, group work and self-learning. In addition, a series of cases are presented as examples, as support to the experimental activities (complements), whose solution is oriented through a guide to achieve the logical analysis of the same. It also introduces a series of exercises designed for the application of the concepts to the solution of problems, obeying the philosophy of the pedagogical proposal of the Unit, within which analysis and active participation in all learning activities is vital. Likewise, an appendix is presented with the necessary orientations for the student to construct each solution with understanding. It is intended that the understanding and learning by the students of the principles that govern the alterations of metabolism contribute to a better management of the clinical complications that occur in numerous frequent diseases in medical practice.
