Abstract
This second volume begins with the smallpox epidemic in the New Kingdom, which served as an experience for the viceroyal authorities to outline a policy to face it, and culminates when the editors of the Gaceta Médica consolidate their project to create a School of Medicine, immediate antecedent of the faculty of the National University. During this period, under the tutelage of Mutis and Miguel de Isla, the first neo-Granadian physicians began to be trained in academic medicine and the transition from colonial to republican medical practices and institutions took place.
