Abstract

Francisco Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828), was one of the most important Spanish artists of the XVII and XIX centuries. Author of more than 1000 artworks, worthy of high charges in the court of king Charles IV, besides of an extensive production by request and as an independent. It draws attention that when analyzing his art pieces chronologically, there can be seen notable changes, passing from everyday life and European royalty, to unusual and mysterious paint-ings, that reflect anxiety and allude death, violence and fantasy. From the neuropsychiatric point of view, it has been considered that the artists suffered of multiple conditions like: neuro-syphilis, brain vascular disease, mercury, lead and quinine poisoning, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada, depression, Cogan syndrome, malaria, measles encephalitis, Susac syndrome and typhoid fever.
