Research output: Chapter in Book/InformChapterFormationpeer-review

Abstract

The psychiatric evaluation is not very different from the general medical evaluation, it includes several aspects ranging from the psychiatric clinical history and mental examination, to the application of questionnaires and diagnostic aids.

The approach to the patient is done by means of the interview, there are as many interviews as there are types of interviewers. The first approach with the patient is crucial for many reasons: firstly, it allows to know the person who consults; the symptoms for which he/she seeks help, his/her life, current condition, predisposing factors, triggers and aggravating factors, lifestyle and previous personality are established; secondly, a good interview will allow the proper development of the doctor-patient relationship, which is the pillar of psychotherapy and the result of the treatment required; finally, a good interview will facilitate reaching an accurate diagnosis.
