Abstract
Community medicine contributes to the fundamental purpose of offering health to the population by the agents of the health system, whether private or state. In this sense, it is a current challenge in the training and practice of medical knowledge to generate the necessary devices to converge in a professional practice according to the needs of the country, developing competencies, quality and warmth in community environments.
The purpose of this text is to make an initial approach to the meaning of community medicine and to describe some significant experiences in this field of health, motivated by an integral vision of Primary Health Care (PHC) as a strategy to organize health services.
