Abstract

This volume is the result of the research work carried out by the Working Group on Digital Communication, Networks and Processes in Latin America -with the same title- within the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC), and is a faithful reflection of the profound transformations that Latin America is undergoing in the digital world.
It brings together a series of interrelated research based on the analysis of digital communication beyond the local and the national, prepared by authors from several countries in this cultural region. Among its pages we will find, among others:
-studies on the role of hypermediations in today's world,
-keys to understanding the concept of interactivity,
-social uses of web portals in different Latin American universities,
-commercial digital strategies of public media,
-use of the Internet as a liberating practice through, for example, the arts...

Thus, the reader will know how the rich cultural melting pot made up of citizens of indigenous, European, black and Asian descent living in the region is related to the new parallel universe established in the world after the introduction of the Internet.
