Abstract
The last decades have shown not only a growing interest in everything concerning old age and the elderly, but in various perspectives from which aging has been approached, which have been as diverse as the multiple facets that make up this process. Hence, this book Aging in the twenty-first century seeks to stimulate “learning to learn” about these topics beyond university classroom, to offer solutions to social problems, and, for health professionals, to communicate effectively in different professional scenarios. It was also conceived to consolidate knowledge acquisition through a common thread of social and humanistic contexts from which clinical problems are approached. In addition, through horizontal integration, it presents the reader with a dynamic way of conceiving old age while contemplating, at the same time, the birth of sciences such as biology, statistics, or anthropology, among others, in order to provide in the end a comprehensive look at the emergence of gerontology with its multidisciplinary components.
