Abstract
Background: Aspiration of a foreign body is considered one of the main causes of preventable morbidity and mortality in the pediatric population, in 2003 according to statistics from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, in Bogotá, D.C., eight deaths occurred due to asphyxia with foreign bodies, of which 90% occurred in children under 5 years of age.
Case report: In this article we present the case of a twenty-three month old patient who presented a foreign body in the right mainstem bronchus.
Conclusions: It is important to think of foreign body aspiration as one of the differential diagnoses when faced with a clinical picture of difficult to manage lower respiratory symptoms, as shown in the analysis of the clinical case.
