Abstract
Throughout these pages, Colombian researchers from different universities critically analyze how the field of crime control has been structured in Colombia and Latin America, the way in which legal discourse—and, more specifically, criminal discourse—has influenced the way how the phenomenon of crime and criminal policy has been constructed in Colombia, the importance of constitutional narratives to shape and give meaning to the particular experience of punishment in the country, and the relationships and tensions between the legal institutions of punishment and the founding assumptions of a free and democratic society.
