Abstract
In Ecuador, a fundamental part of the new extractivist scenario is large-scale mining, which has been the subject of discussions and a source of conflict for more than a decade. This qualitative and inductive research seeks to analyze the conflict around the first undertaking of this category in the country, the Mirador project. As a main result, it is concluded that the Mirador project has generated a long-lasting process of conflict, with a complex variety of content and participating actors. As the backbone of the origin, development and possible solution of the mining conflict, it is proposed to increase transparency in public information as a democratic right regulated by the national legal framework.
