Abstract

Digital communication, in recent decades, has evidenced significant transformations: on the one hand, in the adaptations and reinterpretations of the user and on the other, those transformations take place within the interface where there is a permanent dialogue with the strategies proposed by the industry. Today communication users perceive, act, respond, create new experiences, and coexist with these interfaces as a new media territory. Technological interfaces allow them, like language, to inhabit those spaces. The network has therefore become the symbolic space in which human-to-human interactions take place and not with the machine, as was believed. This edition, aligned with Thematic Group 19, Digital communication, networks and processes, of the Latin American Association of Researchers in Communication (ALAIC), proposes to reconstruct an overview of the state of research in new media and online processes, particularly with a comparative perspective in the Ibero-American context. This is a number that, although it was thought before the emergence of the pandemic, actively dialogues with the challenges of post-Covid-19 communication research, while exploring major structural transformations and digital mediation processes; it moves in the fields of large and new gaps and, above all, it contributes transversally to the role that the media will play in addressing digital human rights.
