Abstract
An angiotensin like polypeptide was produced by incubating chymotrypsin with human plasma. This vasoactive substance, provisionally called 'chymotensin' is thermostable, dialyzable and soluble in distilled water, propanol or butanol. Chymotensin increases blood pressure in the rat and displays a vasoconstrictor effect and oxytocic activity on isolated preparations. Chemical and biological characterization to date indicates that this vasoactive polypeptide is angiotensin II.
