Abstract
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a chronic progressive disease caused by the inhalation of harmful particles present mainly in cigarette smoke and wood smoke, which cause irreversible damage to the functioning of the respiratory system and generate many consequences at the physical, mental and social level in the person who suffers from it, Symptoms such as dyspnea or difficulty in breathing and fatigue progressively affect the individual's functional capacity and sometimes compromise the performance of daily life activities, such as bathing, eating, and can limit the individual's ability to function within his or her family and social circle; This can lead the person with COPD to imminent disability with dependence and isolation. Fortunately, the knowledge of the disease, which is advancing every day, has allowed to know aspects of the treatment that can lead individuals with this pathology to have relief and control of their symptoms and to be able to live actively and with the best possible quality of life. One aspect of treatment is pulmonary rehabilitation, which, based on physical exercise training, seeks to enable the person with COPD to carry out all the activities of daily living with the least possible symptoms and to achieve the best possible exercise tolerance in their daily activities. This text, created and designed by physical therapists, is intended to be a manual for people with COPD to learn how to exercise and obtain the benefits derived from its practice. This book is especially useful for the person with COPD and their family and for all physicians, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, physical educators, students of health programs and all those who are committed to the pursuit of optimizing the care and quality of life of the COPD patient.
