Bioética y la brecha 10/90: fallos, desafíos y oportunidades

Biomedical research in the context of globalization raises challenges involving pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, local political entities, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, communities and multilateral organizations. The growing inequality between industrialized and developing countries, is embodied in what some have called the gap 10/90, where 90% of the effort and resources for biomedical research, are intended as problems that affect only 10% of the priorities in global public health, and similarly, only allocates 10% of these research resources to solving health problems that affect 90 % of the world population. Several alternatives have been proposed to amend this inequality, such as the prioritization of the research, access to essential medicines in terms of equity, capacity building in research and the strategy of research based on community.
