Abstract

In 1997, Indian neurologist Rajendra Kale published an editorial in the British Medical Journal, highlighting the launch of a worldwide campaign to improve the acceptance, treatment and prevention of epilepsy, called Out of the shadows. Despite his enthusiasm for this international initiative, the first two sentences of his text were a stinging critique of the way epilepsy continued to be associated with profound discriminations
