Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the genetic variability of polymorphisms in candidate and ancestry genes in the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection and sequelae in a Colombian population. The central hypothesis of this project is that it is possible to identify genetic risk factors in a population with a heterogeneous and unique gene pool such as our population. The proposed work will be the first comprehensive approach to study the impact of polymorphisms in several genes associated with the clinical evolution of COVID-19 and ancestry markers in the Colombian population. We propose to perform this approach using a robust platform such as next generation sequencing, population genetic analysis and the construction of a predictive risk model of the course of the disease using genetic and non-genetic indicators. The extensive joint experience of the Center for Research in Genetics and Genomics of the University of Rosario (CIGGUR), the Hospital Universitario Mayor Méderi and the group of population genetics and identification of the National University of Colombia, allows the establishment of an interdisciplinary group that unites expertise in basic and clinical sciences essential for the development of novel initiatives for our environment that are proposed in this research.
