Abstract

Urban solid waste management is a critical challenge in rapidly growing cities. This paper presents a multi-objective optimization framework for the strategic placement of waste containers and the routing of garbage collection vehicles, applied to the localities of Kennedy and Fontibón in Bogotá, Colombia. The proposed methodology integrates genetic algorithms and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to address both user accessibility and operational efficiency. The model considers stochastic waste generation, container capacity constraints, and vehicle routing limitations. Results demonstrate significant improvements in container utilization and route optimization, offering a replicable approach for urban waste management systems.
