Workshop Big Data CO 2018

Data science encompasses the handling, processing and analysis of large amounts of information. Data science involves areas such as Big Data and data analytics, and its popularity has been growing because it offers applications, analysis tools and solutions in multiple areas. Although the first sector to benefit is the technology sector, this area has also proven to be fundamental for sectors such as retail and marketing, and has great potential in the agricultural sector and public administration, among many others.

Taking into account this great diversity of actors with an interest in the area of data science, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Faculty of Economics held the first edition of the Big Data CO Workshop in June 2017, as part of the University's Summer School. The event proved to be a success by having speakers from companies and institutions such as Facebook, BBVA, UBER, Bancolombia, Banco de la República, DNP, as well as professors from the Universities of Antioquia and Universidad Rosario.

In addition, this event had more than 130 participants from many institutions, including: MinTIC, SuperSalud, Secretariat of Mobility, Presidency of the Republic, Balcoldex, DNP, Colciencias, Military Forces, National Navy, FAC, Army, MinDefense, CIAT, CAF, Private Competitiveness Council, Carvajal, PWC, Fedecafé, Universidad de Sao Paulo, Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Javeriana, Universidad Nacional, Externado, Konrad Lorenz, Universidad de Antioquia, and Universidad Militar Nueva Granada.
