The international circulation of human rights expertise in the globalized "South": a transnational study on the rights of indigenous peoples based on the Colombian case.

Project: Research Project

Project Details

Description

This research project seeks to use the tools of Pierre Bourdieu's reflexive sociology and the methodology of "collective biographies" proposed by Yves Dezalay and Bryanth Garth to develop studies on the constitution of the field of state power in Latin America. These collective biographies are elaborated on the basis of three axes of analysis:
1- The national structuring of legal and political systems, and the international circulation of knowledge, professionals and experts (for the Colombian case: analysis of the "transitional justice" model, the "good governance" model, the "development with identity" model).
2- The types of recruitment of traditional political elites and the arrival of atypical social agents to the political and legal field (social leaders, indigenous leaders and militants).
3-The restructuring of the legal and political field.
Our methodology consists in elaborating a collective biography of the social agents that are part of this social universe, without leaving aside the analysis of institutional or academic devices that contribute to constitute or reshape the institutions. On the contrary, it is a question of inscribing this collective biography in a long-term analysis. The relevance of this methodology lies in highlighting the homologies existing between the dispositions of social agents and the structures of the State in which the knowledge they produce is inscribed. Thus, the stakes of a state reform are illuminated by the social, scholastic and professional trajectories of the agents (promoters or importers).
