Reincorporation and ideological transformations of the FARC in its transition to a political party.

Project: Research Project

Project Details

Description

With the recent peace agreement between the National Government and the FARC-EP, and the transformation of this guerrilla group into a political party, the seedbed has proposed to build a medium-term research agenda around the ideological transformations of this group in the post-conflict period. Two years after its foundation as a political party, the Revolutionary Alternative Force of the Common (FARC) has attracted the attention of national and international public opinion due to the multiple internal disputes regarding its new identity.
Although today there are multiple tendencies and tensions within the party that move between moderation and radicalism, how much have the programmatic proposals of the political party changed with respect to its time as an armed group? What are its thematic bets today? Do they maintain socialism and Bolivarianism as central banners of their political exercise or have they embraced new political discourses in their transition? These are some of the questions that the seedbed wants to answer, based on theoretical work on the role of ideology in the transition from armed groups to political parties, review of secondary sources (such as press and FARC campaign material) and interviews with former FARC combatants in the city of Bogota.
